It was bound to happen. It was, after all, only a matter of time. Now it seems that Apple’s words are coming back to haunt the House that Jobs Built. Apple has always said of OS X that it “just worked”. Apple’s(1) fans have said the same thing and, until recently, rightly so.

I know I’m not the only person pondering this. Apple has for years, and I mean years, been solid as to its OS builds, OS upgrades and even firmware for its devices. That is, until recently. Very recently.

Recently we have had the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware debacle that bricked pristine, unlocked, iPhones as well as those nefarious unlocked versions. Apple’s response? Right.

Friday saw the release into the wild (so to speak) of OSX 10.5 Leopard and almost as quickly came reports that, to Microsoft XP users isn’t new, of the dreaded BSOD(2) appearing on OS X machines(3) .

Its not just the dreaded BSOD that users are reporting. I have also seen users bitten by stability issues.

And there is a report that Apple has shipped a bad batch of Leopard Install DVD’s. According to Technology Expert -

According to this thread, the bad batch of DVDs has been confirmed by Apple, and support says you should not go back to the same store you originally purchased the DVD from, as the remainder of DVDs at that store would likely be bad as well.

There are other problems as well as system freezes mentioned above. Check out this Apple thread.

Is this what Apple has come to?

In those immortal words from The Matrix, Apple Users – Welcome to the world of the real.

Footnotes are for reference only and may have little, if anything to do with the text from the post.

  1. I’m a Windows and Linux user. The only Apple product I use is a 5th Gen iPod. []
  2. Blue Screen Of Death []
  3. Really. You can look here and here for more OS X BSOD reports []

Exciting, huh?
